A Minnesota resident has been detained following the discovery of a woman’s body in her camper at a Wabasha County campsite months prior.

The victim, 63-year-old Barbara McBride-Law, was discovered deceased on August 30, 2025. Authorities quickly identified Stanley Alan Munstermann, aged 69, as having stayed with her in the days leading up to her death, according to reports from KSTP.

Surveillance footage captured Munstermann arriving on August 28 and departing early on the morning McBride-Law was found.

On August 31, investigators reached out to Munstermann at his girlfriend’s residence in Nebraska to inform him of McBride-Law’s demise. Munstermann claimed they were high school acquaintances, despite their six-year age gap, and emphasized there was no romantic involvement. He mentioned that he drank heavily on August 29, leading to a blackout, and had no memory of entering or exiting McBride-Law’s camper.

He recalled regaining consciousness around 3:30 a.m. while driving on Interstate 90 (with video evidence showing him leaving at 3:47 a.m.) and then proceeded to Nebraska to visit his girlfriend.

Court records reveal Munstermann made several troubling statements to individuals who later spoke with detectives. He allegedly mentioned to one person that he thought he might have killed someone but was uncertain and had no recollection of the event.

He reportedly made similar comments during a phone call while driving on August 30, telling that person he was afraid of himself. He told that witness he thought he left someone badly hurt but didn’t know who and that he wasn’t a good person.

An autopsy ruled McBride-Law’s  died from homicidal violence, although police had not seen obvious trauma on her body, Law&Crime said.

Munstermann was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter on February 26. His arraignment is set for Monday.
