According to recent reports, the CIA is reportedly attempting to equip Kurdish forces in an effort to incite a rebellion within Iran in the near future.
Increased tensions in the Middle East have prompted the Trump administration to engage in active discussions with Iranian opposition figures and Kurdish leaders based in Iraq. These talks focus on providing military aid to these groups, as disclosed by several sources to CNN.
A senior official from the Iranian Kurdish opposition revealed to the news outlet that their forces are set to participate in a ground offensive planned for Western Iran in the coming days.
“We believe we have a significant opportunity now,” the official stated.
The militias have been waiting for the right moment since the conflict began and are hopeful for backing from both the United States and Israel, the official added.
Numerous Iranian Kurdish armed groups are currently stationed along the Iraq-Iran border. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been targeting these Kurdish factions, reportedly launching a series of drone attacks on Tuesday, as noted by the outlet.
President Trump spoke with Mustafa Hijri, the President of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, which was targeted by the IRGC, on Tuesday, a senior official said.
Axios first reported that Trump had also called Iraqi Kurdish leaders on Sunday to discuss the US’s military operation in Iran and to assess whether they could work together.
