A recent report reveals that Iranian bombers came dangerously close to attacking the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East. The potential strike was thwarted just two minutes before impact when the Qatari Air Force successfully intercepted the aircraft.

According to CNN, Iranian SU-24 bombers from the Revolutionary Guard targeted al-Udeid Air Base, which accommodates about 10,000 U.S. service members. The attack was averted when a Qatari F-15 fighter jet, along with additional military aircraft, intercepted the Iranian planes.

A source informed the news outlet that the SU-24 bombers were armed with bombs and guided munitions, indicating a serious threat.

To evade radar detection, the Iranian aircraft descended to a low altitude of approximately 80 feet. In response, Qatar swiftly deployed its air fleet, effectively countering the threat.

The Qatari forces managed to down the SU-24 bombers over their territorial waters.

“For the first time, Qatari fighters have successfully shot down two Iranian bombers en route to their target,” stated Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a press briefing.

The Iranian air force is estimated to have approximately 20 Soviet and Russian-made Su-24s in its inventory.
