Britney Spears arrested in California on suspicion of DUI: Reports and court docs

In a surprising turn of events, Britney Spears has found herself in legal trouble once again. The pop icon was apprehended in California on charges related to driving under the influence, as confirmed by various media outlets.

Booking documents from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reveal that Spears, identified merely as a “celebrity,” was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol late Wednesday evening. While the specifics of the charge remain undisclosed in public records, both TMZ and Variety have reported it as a DUI arrest.

This development comes on the heels of Spears securing a protective order against a purported stalker, adding another layer to her ongoing personal challenges.

In response to the arrest, a spokesperson for Spears issued a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, describing it as “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”

The statement further expressed Spears’ intention to adhere to legal requirements, hoping this incident will mark the beginning of a necessary transformation in her life. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law,” the spokesperson affirmed, emphasizing the need for Spears to receive the necessary support and assistance during this challenging period.

The statement also mentioned the involvement of Spears’ family in her recovery process, noting, “Her boys will be spending time with her, and her loved ones are planning a much-needed strategy to ensure her well-being and success moving forward.”

Records indicate Spears was booked into the county jail Thursday morning and her car was towed. She was released a few hours later after being cited and given a court date in May.

Spears is expected back at Ventura County Superior Court on May 4. The court’s website has not been updated to show the details of the case against her.

Ventura County is located on the Pacific coast, just north of Los Angeles. It’s a popular place to live for celebrities and the uber-wealthy who congregate near L.A.

TMZ also reported the DUI arrest comes just after she won a legal battle against an alleged stalker. This week, she was granted a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old Louisiana man, whom she claimed had been harassing her online since 2013. The man was arrested for trespassing after showing up at her southern California home in 2025.

The celebrity-focused outlet reported that as the man, identified only as Donald, was taken into custody, he “exhibited odd behavior and made several incoherent comments,” according to a deputy.

The court order prohibits Donald from being within 100 yards of the celebrity, and lasts through 2030.
