Amidst the hustle and bustle, a woman diligently loads her van with parcels, blending seamlessly with the dedicated workforce of the United States Postal Service.

Yet, beneath this unassuming exterior lies a surprising past—she is a former Hollywood actress once hailed as ‘the female John Travolta’ by none other than Robert Stigwood, the legendary producer behind iconic films like Grease and Saturday Night Fever, and the man who helped catapult the Bee Gees to fame.

This woman is Robin Johnson, a 61-year-old once celebrated as an emerging talent of the 1980s by US magazine, landing a spot on their exclusive list of promising stars destined for greatness.

That same list boasted other notable names, including Matt Dillon.

Johnson’s journey to stardom began on a high note, akin to Dillon’s, when she was chosen for a role in the 1980 film Times Square, acting alongside Tim Curry.

This eagerly anticipated musical drama was heralded as a fresh, new wave take on Saturday Night Fever, with Johnson’s distinctive, raspy Brooklyn accent setting her apart as its standout performer.

Sadly, the movie flopped and circumstances beyond Johnson’s control killed the momentum of her career, with a slew of poorly-received projects following.

She bagged small roles in Miami Vice and Guiding Light, then vanished from public view in 1988.

Fans of the actress have clamored for updates on her whereabouts ever since.

And now the Daily Mail has tracked Johnson down to Central Florida, where she lives a quiet life of public service as a mail carrier for the USPS.

Johnson was snapped hard at work earlier this week.

The former performer loaded multiple carts of large packages – many of them from Amazon – into her white USPS van at a depot in the small city of Inverness.

Dressed casually in a t-shirts and loose pants, Johnson worked with efficiency.

The red hair she sported at the start of her showbiz career remains on display.

Johnson’s bright green glasses betray a hint of the insouciance her rebellious movie characters were known for.

Johnson paused at one point for a coffee and cigarette but was soon back at work delivering packages around Inverness, which is home to 7,540 people and sits 70 miles north of both Orlando and Tampa.

The actress lives there in a neat, two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo worth $174,000 that she shares with her 62-year-old sister Cindy.

They enjoy a quiet existence in a peaceful gated community that sits close to a lake and has its own communal swimming pool.

When approached a Daily Mail reporter with questions about her life, Johnson said: ‘I am not interested. I don’t want to talk to anyone. Please leave.’

In recent years, Johnson has suffered money troubles and was declared bankrupt for the second time in November 2025.

Johnson owed more than $102,000 to various lenders including credit card companies, payday loan firms and the Internal Revenue Service.

She exited bankruptcy in February 2026 and now appears to be working hard on rebuilding her finances.

Johnson’s life seems to be one of simple contentedness – although it would be natural for her to sometimes wonder what might have been.

Her role in Times Square was meant to launch her as a major star and was overseen by her mentor Robert Stigwood. He was a Hollywood power player who also produced movies including Bugsy Malone, Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Fame, as well as a slew of hit Broadway musicals.

Johnson played Nicky Marotta, a wild tearaway teenage rocker who helps bring shy lawmaker’s daughter Pamela Pearl (Trini Alvarado) out of her shell.

The pair formed a fictional band called The Sleez Sisters and railed against Pearl’s father’s attempts to gentrify the seedy Manhattan neighborhood of the movie’s title.

Tim Curry was hired to star but a planned lesbian plot was axed and critic Robert Ebert branded the movie ‘a missed opportunity… that seems on the brink of wonderful things.’

In the ensuing years, Times Square has become a cult classic, with a soundtrack that includes songs from Johnson herself branded one of the greatest of all time.

It was meant to be the opening career salvo for Johnson in a three-year deal with its producer Stigwood.

The strict contract forbade Johnson from accepting other work for its duration.

But Stigwood failed to follow through on his promise of work for the star and she was forced to get a job as a bank teller until it expired.

Finally freed from those contractual shackles, Johnson starred in girl band drama Splitz in 1982, romcom Baby It’s You in 1983 and as a ‘punk girl’ in Martin Scorcese’s 1985 movie After Hours.

She looked just like any other hardworking member of the USPS and it is unclear if her coworkers realize she was once a movie star who still has a cult fanbase

She played a prostitute called Candy James in a single episode of Miami Vice the same year who flirted with James Crockett, played by Don Johnson.

Johnson was cast in NBC’s Code Name: Foxfire that same year. But the network’s attempt at a Charlie Angels-esque show wasn’t renewed for a second season.

In 1988, Johnson appeared in the thriller D.O.A. and a four year, on-off stint on soap opera Guiding Light wrapped up. She has not been in any films or TV shows since.

Johnson spent much of the 90s working as a traffic reporter for Los Angeles radio station KFWB-AM and returned to Florida in the 2000s.

Despite her decades-long absence from the public eye, Johnson’s fans continue to hope for a comeback.

And while Johnson appears to have little interest in mounting one, those enthralled by her grit, charisma and talent will continue to desperately hope that she might one day change her mind.
