High-rise tower at Dubai Marina hit by drone as debris kills taxi driver

A tragic incident unfolded in Dubai when a taxi driver lost his life due to debris from an Iranian drone strike.

Dubai’s Media Office reported on social media that a male Pakistani taxi driver was killed when falling debris struck his vehicle after an aerial interception.

Videos shared online depicted scenes of thick smoke and flames emerging from the upper levels of the 23 Marina Tower, a notable skyscraper located in Dubai’s Marina district.

In response to the incident, travelers at Dubai International Airport, one of the globe’s busiest airports and a key transit hub for the Middle East, were directed to train tunnels as a precautionary measure.

Following a brief suspension, Emirates airline announced the resumption of flights to and from Dubai.

A spokesperson for Dubai Airports stated, “Dubai Airports confirms a partial resumption of operations starting today, 7 March, with some flights operating out of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC).”

The apparent Iranian attack came after the country’s President apologised to neighbours in the region for striking them, declaring Iran would stop them and they had been caused by command chain miscommunications.

There were attacks yesterday in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
