French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the Group of Seven (G7) nations will engage in discussions about potentially releasing strategic oil reserves. This consideration comes as leaders gather for emergency talks concerning the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

France, currently presiding over the G7, is exploring this option as a response to the unfolding situation. “The use of strategic reserves is an option being considered,” Macron stated, emphasizing the gravity of the current geopolitical climate.

Macron mentioned that a meeting involving the heads of state and government from the G7 countries might be convened this week. He shared these insights with journalists while en route to Cyprus, highlighting the urgency of coordinating a collective energy response among the world’s leading economies.

“A coordination among G7 heads of state and government this week on the issue of energy is being examined,” he further noted, underscoring the potential for collaborative action.

In alignment with these discussions, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure is set to lead a virtual meeting of G7 finance ministers. This meeting is scheduled for 1:30 pm Paris time (12:30 pm UK time) and aims to evaluate the economic implications of the Gulf situation.

The finance ministers will assess recent developments in the region, focusing on their economic impact, as part of a broader strategy to address the challenges posed by the Middle East crisis.
