1 killed, 11 injured in multi-vehicle pileup involving FDNY truck on NYC street

A chaotic multi-vehicle collision in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening resulted in one fatality and left 11 others injured. The incident began when a van collided with an FDNY truck, sparking a destructive series of events, according to police reports.

The dramatic crash unfolded around 6:45 p.m. in Gravesend. An FDNY vehicle, moving east on Avenue S, was struck by a commercial van traveling north on West 11th Street, as stated by the NYPD.

This impact propelled the FDNY truck into an Access-A-Ride van, which subsequently crashed into a Lexus SUV, police explained.

Tragically, a 78-year-old passenger from the Access-A-Ride van was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed.

While the incident was severe, nearly a dozen others involved sustained only minor injuries.

Those injured included six firefighters, the driver of the initial collision’s commercial van, the operator of the Access-A-Ride van, three additional passengers, and the driver of the Lexus. They were all taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
