Faulty US targeting intel was to blame for strike on Iran girls school that killed 175: report

A preliminary military inquiry concluded on Wednesday attributes a devastating missile strike on an Iranian elementary school to flawed US targeting intelligence.

According to Iranian sources, the February 28 Tomahawk missile attack on Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 175 individuals, the majority of whom were children.

The US military’s investigation revealed that the strike occurred due to a targeting error based on outdated intelligence from the Defense Intelligence Agency, US officials disclosed to the New York Times.

The missile was intended to hit an adjacent Iranian military base as part of the initial day of the recent joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran.

Investigators discovered that the school building had previously been integrated into the military compound, which contributed to the targeting mistake.

The White House emphasized that it is premature to draw definitive conclusions from the ongoing investigation.

The White House has said it is too early to draw conclusions from the investigation.

“As the New York Times acknowledges in its own reporting, the investigation is still ongoing,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
