3 brothers of Iraqi descent arrested in Oslo for allegedly 'terror bombing' of US Embassy

Authorities have apprehended three siblings in connection with the bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Norway, an incident where fortunately no injuries were reported.

The men, identified as Norwegian nationals of Iraqi descent in their twenties, were detained in Oslo, according to officials on Wednesday, as reported by Reuters.

“They are under suspicion for orchestrating a terrorist bombing,” stated Police Attorney Christian Hatlo during a press briefing.

“Our investigation suggests they set off a substantial explosive at the embassy with the intent to harm individuals or inflict extensive damage,” Hatlo elaborated.

The device, identified as an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded on Sunday, causing damage to the consular section’s entrance of the embassy.

Investigators were still trying to determine a motive for that attack, one of which would be an act of terrorism, authorities said.

“We believe they detonated a powerful bomb at the U.S. embassy with the intention of taking lives or causing significant damage,” Hatlo said.

Authorities believe one of the men planted the bomb while the two others took part in the plot, Hatlo said.

Police have reinforced security measures and have increased their presence around the embassy.
