Two teens killed in e-bike collision with Harley Davidson in Brisbane

Tragedy struck in Brisbane’s southern region as two teenagers lost their lives in a collision between their e-bike and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Authorities suggest that the motorcycle collided with the e-bike while attempting to overtake another vehicle on Middle Road in Greenbank around 9 p.m. last night.

The teenage boy and girl tragically died on the scene, while the motorcyclist was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Initial investigations indicate that the e-bike might not have had lights on at the time of the accident.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses footage or additional information to step forward.

The forensic crash unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Calls for restrictions on e-bikes have been growing as the number of riders, particularly children, dying or suffering serious injuries grows.

Laws vary significantly from state to state and there’s no nationally consistent age limit or other regulations.

Only Western Australia imposes an age-limit on e-bike riders.

Queensland allows people of any age to ride one on most roads and paths without a licence so long as it complies with power limits.

The government is considering the recommendations of a parliamentary inquiry report handed down earlier this month.

It included calls for the devices to be restricted to people aged 16 and over and limit footpath speeds to 10km/h, among other changes.
