In a recent development from Florida, a man has been charged with aggravated manslaughter over a year after the tragic death of his 5-week-old daughter, a case that has left a community in mourning.

The individual in question, 27-year-old Dajuan Patrick, was apprehended by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, acting on a warrant issued by Volusia County. The arrest follows an exhaustive investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, who have been diligently pursuing justice for the deceased infant.

The heartbreaking incident dates back to December 2, 2024, when the baby, Dahlia Siebenhaar, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she remained unresponsive and tragically passed away on December 12 after being removed from life support.

An autopsy revealed the grim extent of Dahlia’s injuries, including severe head trauma, broken ribs, widespread bruising, and retinal hemorrhages. Medical experts attributed these injuries to violent shaking and forceful handling, leading Volusia County Chief Medical Examiner James Fulcher to classify her death as a homicide.

Over the course of 15 months, investigators meticulously combed through medical records, gathered evidence, and conducted numerous interviews, eventually concluding that Patrick was responsible for inflicting the fatal injuries by shaking and spanking the infant.

In a poignant statement, Sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed the deep sorrow surrounding the case, saying, “The arrest in this case won’t bring Dahlia back or give her the childhood she deserved, but today we’re speaking up for her, because her life mattered.” The arrest marks a significant step toward justice, though it cannot undo the immeasurable loss of a young life.

Patrick is being held without bond in Jacksonville awaiting transport to Volusia County.
