Richard Grenell, a veteran Republican adviser on foreign policy, who led significant transformations at the Kennedy Center that led to numerous artists distancing themselves from the renowned arts venue, is set to resign as the institution’s president.

The news was initially reported by Axios on Friday and subsequently verified by a source with knowledge of the situation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as the information had not been officially disclosed yet.

This announcement is expected to be made during a board meeting planned for Monday at the White House.

Matt Floca, who currently serves as the vice president of facilities operations, is anticipated to take over Grenell’s role.

Grenell’s resignation coincides with the Kennedy Center’s plans to undergo a two-year renovation starting this summer.

Grenell played a pivotal role in President Donald Trump’s efforts to significantly revamp the Kennedy Center shortly after his return to office.

A month into his administration, Trump ousted the Kennedy Center’s leadership, filled the board of trustees with his supporters and announced he had been elected the board’s chair.

More recently, Trump attached his name to the building.
