The US Embassy in Baghdad has been bombed.
A missile struck a helipad inside the US Embassy in Baghdad, two security officials said.

A projectile struck within the embassy grounds after the Green Zone, a highly secure area in central Baghdad home to Iraqi government offices and foreign embassies, was targeted. This information was provided by security officials who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Footage acquired by The Associated Press revealed plumes of smoke rising from the compound’s interior.

There was no immediate comment from the US Embassy in Baghdad.

On Friday, the embassy reiterated its Level 4 security alert for Iraq, citing past attacks by Iran and Iran-backed militia on American citizens, interests, and infrastructure, warning that these entities “may continue to target them.”

The embassy, a vast complex and one of the world’s largest US diplomatic missions, has frequently faced rocket and drone assaults from militias aligned with Iran.

These militias have recently increased their attacks on bases that host US and coalition forces.

In northern Iraq on Thursday, a drone attack resulted in the death of a French soldier and injured several others who were part of an international coalition stationed there.

Trump was asked on The Brian Kilmeade Show about the timeline of the war, which he previously described as a “brief excursion”.

“When it’s over –– and I don’t think it’s going to be long –– when it’s over, this is going to bounce back so fast,” the president said.

The US has attacked a piece of vital infrastructure in Iran that has so far been untouched by the war.

In a Truth Social post, the US president said he had destroyed every military target on what he described as “Iran’s crown jewel”.
