A former State of Origin star has been taken into custody on the Gold Coast following accusations of domestic violence.

Chris Walker, known for his tenure with several NRL teams, was apprehended Saturday night after reportedly evading police at his residence.

Authorities claim he drove off in a utility vehicle before ditching it, continuing on foot, and leaping over fences into a nearby backyard.

Police units extensively searched the area around Whitsunday Drive in Currumbin Waters.

After a two-hour manhunt, he was allegedly discovered hiding beneath a pontoon in the canals nearby.

The 46-year-old Walker was subsequently arrested, with reports indicating he was sought for domestic violence-related allegations.

He also played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans and Parramatta Eels in the NRL, retiring in 2011.
