Recent reports indicate that a renewed channel of communication has been established between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the US special envoy Steve Witkoff. According to Axios, this development was confirmed by a US official and another informed source.
It has been suggested that Araghchi took the first step by sending text messages to Witkoff, with the aim of finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict, which has now reached its third week. However, this report has been met with denial from Araghchi himself.
Taking to social media platform X, Araghchi refuted the claims, stating, “My last contact with Mr. Witkoff was before his employer decided to abandon diplomacy with another unlawful military strike on Iran. Any assertions otherwise seem intended to mislead oil traders and the public.”
In response, a US official countered Araghchi’s denial, accusing him of dishonesty and asserting that Araghchi indeed made the initial outreach to Witkoff.
This situation is still unfolding, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
