A high school student from Texas faced a tragic betrayal when two teenagers, whom he thought were friends, entered his home and shot him in the back of the head before robbing him, authorities reported alongside the grieving account from the victim’s mother.

Two 16-year-olds are now facing murder charges linked to the death of 18-year-old Michael Spivey, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Both suspects have been detained at the Harris County juvenile detention center.

The incident occurred on December 26, 2025, just after Christmas, when Spivey was at his residence on Edsall Drive in Spring, Texas. He initially stepped out to meet someone and returned shortly thereafter with one or two individuals, as disclosed by Gonzalez.

Though the authorities have withheld the names of the young suspects, Vanessa Garcia, Spivey’s mother, revealed that her son regarded the teenagers as friends.

Garcia recounted to Houston’s ABC affiliate KTRK that the teens claimed they needed assistance charging their phones that night, and her son welcomed them in. “They took advantage of my son’s kindness,” she lamented.

Spivey was fatally shot in the back of the head in his own room, Garcia further explained. Investigators found no evidence of forced entry or a struggle, and they have been piecing together the events to understand the circumstances of the crime.

Following the shooting, the two suspects reportedly went online and made “songs” about Spivey, “making fun of him” as if he were “a joke,” Garcia said.

Months later, on Saturday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged one of the suspects, and on Monday, they arrested and charged the other. Garcia wants them to be prosecuted as adults.

“A juvenile is a child who doesn’t know what they’re doing yet,” she told the local TV station. “They knew what they were doing. They went there with the intent to do it.”
