Long Island's Ethan Wyttenbach finalist for college hockey's Hobey Baker Award

Could the prestigious Hobey Baker Award be heading to Long Island this year?

Ethan Wyttenbach, hailing from Roslyn, has been named a finalist for what is widely considered college hockey’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. As a freshman at Quinnipiac, Wyttenbach made a striking impression by leading the nation with 58 points, surpassing his closest competitor, Penn State’s Gavin McKenna, by six points.

“It’s a great honor, but I haven’t won anything yet,” Wyttenbach shared with The Post, expressing cautious optimism about his chances when the winner is revealed in April. He added that he feels “pretty good” about the upcoming announcement.

Despite being a fifth-round pick for the Calgary Flames, Wyttenbach doesn’t need awards to validate his impact on the ice. His recent meeting with Calgary’s management during their game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden was filled with positive feedback. “They’re really happy with how I’m doing,” Wyttenbach noted with satisfaction.

His impressive performance has also caught the attention of fellow Long Islander and potential future teammate, Matthew Coronato, who is excited to witness Wyttenbach’s remarkable season unfold.

His game also received praise from fellow Long Islander and prospective future teammate Matthew Coronato, who is thrilled to see Wyttenbach’s special year come to life.

“He’s always checking in and things like that,” said Wyttenbach, who trains at a rink his dad built with Coronato over the summers.

Vincent’s Clam Bar is straining from deep, sending good luck cases of its signature jarred sauce down to March Madness with Hofstra and St. John’s to keep both teams hot — or mild, or medium — during their big games.

Robke’s owner Louie Selvaggio, who bought his pal and Hofstra coach Speedy Claxton a good luck jacket he wore on Selection Sunday, also worked up a university-themed cocktail for a Friday watch party at his nearby sister location, Birdie Bar in Northport.
