An Alabama mother faces charges of murder and child abuse following allegations that she left her two teenage sons with autism unattended, resulting in the tragic death of one child.
Amanda Morgan, aged 39, was taken into custody on Tuesday after an extensive investigation into the incident that occurred in October 2025, according to WKRG.
Authorities discovered the family’s residence in deplorable conditions, lacking air conditioning and running water, infested with insects, and covered in feces.
Police responded to a report of a child not breathing and found the lifeless body of a 14-year-old boy. Both sons, including a 16-year-old with autism, had been left alone overnight, and the younger child tragically died from “accidental strangulation” when a blanket became entangled around his neck.
The older teenager was hospitalized due to severe malnutrition.
During a hearing on Wednesday, Morgan was assigned a bond totaling $440,000 and was instructed to avoid any contact with her surviving 16-year-old son. Her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
