Teenager arrested over fire bitten by police dog in Melbourne

A teenage boy required hospital treatment after being bitten by a police dog during his arrest in connection with a fire incident.

He was one of two 17-year olds charged after a fire at a shop in Melbourne’s west.

Authorities responded to reports of a fire at an abandoned shop on Wool Street in Tarneit around 2:30 a.m.

According to investigators, several suspects fled the scene in a Toyota Landcruiser, which was later discovered abandoned at the corner of Dohertys and Mount Cottrell roads in Mount Cottrell.

A search operation, including the Dog Squad and Air Wing, led to the arrest of two 17-year-old boys from Greater Dandenong at approximately 5 a.m.

During the arrest, one of the teenagers sustained a bite from a police dog.

Ambulance Victoria reported that the injured boy received medical attention and was transported to Sunshine Hospital in stable condition.

They have been charged with aggravated burglary, criminal damage by fire, conduct endangering life/serious injury, theft of motor vehicle and possess articles to destroy.

One teen will be directly presented to a children’s court and the other will have a bedside remand hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
