Chicago shooting: Family seeks justice after Brandy Fleming found shot, killed in alley behind her home in West Garfield Park

In a tragic turn of events on Chicago’s West Side, the body of a woman, identified as Brandy Fleming, was discovered last week in an alleyway near her home in West Garfield Park. This shocking discovery has left her family in mourning and seeking assistance for her young son.

Fleming’s body was found early on the morning of March 13, at approximately 5:30 a.m., in the 200-block of North Kilbourn Avenue. The Chicago police have confirmed that she was fatally shot, adding a grim layer to the unfolding tragedy.

Her family, grappling with the sudden loss, spoke to ABC7 Chicago, revealing the heartbreaking details surrounding her death. They disclosed that a passerby, on their way to work, discovered Fleming’s body. Inside the home, her 5-year-old son remained unaware of the horrific incident that had taken his mother’s life.

Fleming’s aunt, Shantel Jamison, expressed the profound loss felt by the family, saying, “You took a really good person with a really big heart that cared about her child.” Her words underscore the void left by Fleming’s untimely death and the deep love she had for her son.

As the investigation continues, the family is reaching out for support to help care for Fleming’s young child, who now faces an uncertain future without his mother’s love and guidance.

“You took a really good person with a really big heart that cared about her child,” aunt Shantel Jamison said.

It’s been a heartbreaking week for the family. Relatives said only child was inside their house, at the time, unaware that his mother was taken from him.

“It was a lady actually on her way to work,” sister Esha Love said. “The boots are what caught her attention. That’s what made her come and assist my sister, and I’m grateful that she did. But I’m saying, in a sense, it was like a little too late.”

Her family says they didn’t find out about her death until hours later.

“Where’s her son? That’s what’s going through my mind,” Jamison said. “Is he okay? Is it a strong possibility he is hurt, too?”

Relatives say the boy was found safe at daycare, left with an unfillable void while the West Side alley remains shrouded in mystery amid an ongoing investigation.

“Sometimes people do holler out with silent cries in situations,” Love said. “I just felt like that I wasn’t there at the time of her desperate need.”

Police haven’t determined a motive behind the shooting, only saying the offender is unknown. So far, no one has been arrested.

Area Four detectives are investigating.
