WALDO, Fla. – Authorities have taken 38-year-old Michael Allen Kinney into custody at the Alachua County Jail following his arrest in Arizona. Kinney faces charges of stealing over $100,000 worth of collectibles from Swamped Collectibles, a shop located at the Waldo Flea Market, back in July 2025.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy detailed that on the early morning of July 10, Kinney allegedly arrived at the Waldo Flea Market (17805 NE U.S. Hwy 301) in a van and proceeded to break a window at the front door of Swamped Collectibles. He then reportedly made off with an estimated $100,000 in trading cards, gaming cards, video games, and display cases.

The shop owner supplied surveillance footage and a partial license plate number, which matched a vehicle registered to Kinney. Furthermore, Kinney’s appearance aligned with the individual captured on the surveillance video.

A sworn complaint, filed two days after the incident, indicated that the van had last been tracked in North Carolina.

On February 23, U.S. Marshals apprehended Kinney at a motel in Mesa, Arizona. He was subsequently extradited to Alachua County to face charges.

Kinney has been charged with grand theft over $100,000, burglary of an unoccupied structure, and misdemeanor property damage. He has one misdemeanor conviction (traffic) and has active warrants out of Alabama, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $315,000, the amount set on his arrest warrant by Judge Denise Ferrero.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
