An infamous Australian criminal, who was convicted of murdering a preschool-aged child at the age of 13, is now contesting a conviction related to an incident involving a mother and her partially clothed child.

After being released from prison, the man reportedly sought out women for dates, despite being diagnosed with a severe personality disorder and a high level of institutionalization, which experts warn could increase his likelihood of reoffending.

The nation’s youngest convicted murderer, known for legal reasons as SLD, spent almost two-thirds of his life in jail after abducting and fatally stabbing his three-year-old neighbour Courtney Morley-Clarke on the NSW Central Coast in 2001.
The man, who can only be identified as “SLD” for legal reasons, served 20 years behind bars for killing three-year-old Courtney Morley-Clarke on the NSW Central Coast in 2001 when he was 13.(Nine)

During court proceedings, Ms. Lind emphasized the original judgment’s acknowledgment of the man’s significant personality disorder and institutionalization, both considered factors that elevate his risk of committing future offenses.

The individual, referred to as SLD, appeared engaged in the legal process as he listened attentively from a custody cell through an audio-visual link.

Following his release from prison in March 2025, SLD was apprehended again just a month later, facing charges related to the possession of child exploitation material.

He recently disclosed his motive for the murder of Courtney, claiming it was an act of revenge against her brother, who he alleges bullied him.

Judgment in the appeal has been reserved for a later date.
