Google has unveiled two innovative features for its Gemini platform on Thursday, designed to entice users contemplating a switch from their current AI chatbot without the hassle of “retraining” a new system. These tools, dubbed “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History,” enable users to seamlessly transfer what their existing AI knows about them using a few predefined prompts.

The “Import Memory” function allows users to transfer their preferences by copying a prompt from Gemini and pasting it into their old AI. The response from the previous AI is then inserted back into Gemini, effectively updating it with the user’s data. Meanwhile, the “Import Chat History” feature involves exporting all previous conversations from the current AI, typically as a .zip file, which is then uploaded to Gemini. This allows users to resume their dialogues in Gemini exactly where they left off.

In addition, Google is rebranding Gemini’s “past chats” as “memory.” These updated features are being introduced to both free and paid consumer Gemini accounts, although they may not be immediately accessible to everyone. However, the new functionalities are not yet available for business, enterprise, or users under 18.
