Tiger Woods’ troubled history with prescription medication resurfaced dramatically on Friday after the golf icon, known for his history of car accidents, was charged with DUI following another vehicular incident.

The 15-time major champion allegedly had “some type of medication or drug” in his system when his luxury Land Rover overturned around 2 p.m. on Jupiter Island, as reported by the Martin County Sheriff.

This latest incident adds to a series of scandals involving Woods and prescription pills, which have previously led to multiple rehab stays and have been linked to earlier accidents.

Back in 2017, Woods was notoriously arrested for driving under the influence of a cocktail of prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien, and THC. The incident, which occurred on a road in Jupiter, resulted in a widely circulated mugshot showing him bleary-eyed and disoriented.

Authorities discovered him asleep at the wheel, with the engine running, approximately 15 miles from his home in the early hours of Memorial Day. Woods later attributed the situation to an adverse reaction to pain medications.

Woods told officers he was taking the pills to ease the pain from back surgery.

Beginning in spring 2014, he underwent four back surgeries – including a fusion operation just two months before the high-profile incident.

He eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving and agreed to enter a diversion program for first-time DUI offenders.

Woods also checked into a treatment clinic in an effort to overcome his dependence on painkillers.

He was not injured in Friday’s crash.

Martin County Sheriff John Budenseik said Woods tried to whip around a flatbed truck pulling into a driveway at a “high rate of speed” — but swerved to avoid an oncoming car, allegedly clipping the truck and sending his Land Rover tumbling.

Police said the golfer seemed unusually lethargic — with a breath test showing no signs of alcohol.

Woods is currently being held at the county jail.
