Tiger Woods is being advised to step away from golf permanently to avoid further strain on his body following a recent car crash and DUI arrest in Florida.
The 50-year-old golf icon found himself in legal trouble after a high-speed attempt to overtake a truck and trailer on a residential road in Jupiter Island resulted in his SUV flipping onto its side.
After emerging through the passenger side window, Woods allegedly refused to provide a urine sample, leading to his arrest on charges of DUI, property damage, and refusal to comply with a lawful test. He was taken to the Martin County Public Safety Complex, where he was booked around 3 p.m. and released by 11 p.m.
This incident echoes a previous arrest in 2017, when Woods was found unresponsive in his vehicle in Florida, with a cocktail of five drugs, including two painkillers, in his system.
In light of this recent event, Brandel Chamblee, a seasoned golf analyst, suggests that Woods should consider retiring from competitive play. Just days prior, Woods made a much-anticipated return to the sport at a high-profile event.

“Why would he feel the need to play golf anymore?” Chamblee questioned on The Golf Channel following Woods’ arrest. “Perhaps it’s time to consider stepping away from the game.”
‘It’s clear that Tiger Woods has a history of pushing himself to his physical limits beyond his physical limits. The stories are of him not needing a lot of sleep. When you sleep, your body repairs itself.
‘He’s up two, three, four in the morning at the gym, grinding it out all day long. You know this puts a considerable stress on what is already a fractured and fragile body. And to the degree that he keeps hurting himself, injuring himself and requiring surgeries.’
Woods, who is currently dating Vanessa Trump, has not given up hope of returning to competitive golf despite the serious injuries he has suffered over the years.
Hours before his crash was first reported, President Donald Trump revealed he will not be playing in this year’s Masters amid speculation over a shock comeback.
Chamblee added about the 15-time major winner: ‘He’s done his work in the game of golf. Nothing he’s going to do on the Champions Tour, with all due respect, to senior golf, we all love it, but it will add nothing really to his legacy. And you know, it’s clear that since 2021 when he’s come back, he can’t play at a competitive level on the PGA Tour.
‘His body just won’t let him do what his talents have previously let him do. That seems like the only circumstance that would alleviate this problem, beyond that you just hope that he gets the care and the help that he needs.’
Cops released Woods’ remarkable mugshot to the public shortly after 10pm, with his eyes puffy and bloodshot in the image. An hour later, he was bonded out and driven away from the jail, as fans and reporters swarmed the car for a glimpse of him.

In photos taken by a Daily Mail photographer, he can be seen looking stony-faced with his lips pursed, before momentarily glancing out of the passenger side window at the gathered masses before disappearing into the night.
At the scene of the accident, Woods passed a breathalyzer test after showing ‘triple zeros’, but then refused to give a urine sample twice, once on the roadside and then again at the jail.
‘He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say,’ Sheriff Budensiek explained. ‘When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.
‘On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.
‘He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.’
Woods has been dating Vanessa – the ex-wife of Trump’s son Donald Jr – for over a year. Their relationship was first reported by the Daily Mail in March 2025 after they started seeing each other around Thanksgiving 2024.
Vanessa, who watched on as Tiger made his golf return at TGL on Tuesday, filed for an uncontested divorce from Donald Jr in March 2018.
