French police have thwarted a suspected bomb attack outside a Bank of America building in Paris, authorities said.

Authorities apprehended one suspect while another managed to flee the scene.

The national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office, or PNAT, told The Associated Press that it has opened an investigation into alleged terrorism-related offences.

According to RTL radio, which referenced police sources, the incident occurred early Saturday morning, Paris time. Police observed two individuals carrying a shopping bag near the Bank of America located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

One suspect was reportedly attempting to light a device using a lighter, as stated by RTL, while the second individual successfully evaded capture.

The Paris police headquarters have declined to provide any comments on the situation.

In light of the ongoing conflict in Iran, French officials have heightened security measures for certain Iranian opposition figures and increased protection around potential targets, including locations associated with U.S. interests and the Jewish community, as noted by Nuñez earlier this week.
