Helen was not only dedicated to her profession, managing her own hairdressing salon, but she also juggled a catering business on the side.

In a recent proposal, List suggests a legal requirement for a speech pathologist to verify the complete and irreversible loss of swallowing, along with a palliative care specialist confirming that comfort care is the only option left.

Additionally, List advocates for a definitive opt-out clause, allowing individuals to decline this option if they choose.

If enacted, this legislation would ensure that Helen’s suffering was not endured without purpose.

“It would mean my own children may not have to suffer the trauma of seeing their mother in pain and be helpless like I was,” she said.

“She spent her whole life raising money to improve people’s lives. 

“If Hem’s Law passes, her story becomes her greatest legacy.”
