Smiling woman learns her fate for opening fire at a house party

In Ohio, a woman has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after she fired shots at a house party upon discovering her estranged husband and boyfriend were present.

Olivia Clendenin, aged 29, was found guilty last month of attempted murder, felonious assault, and illegal discharge of a firearm, all related to a shooting incident on New Year’s Day.

Clendenin targeted a home in the Dayton area where a party was underway, inadvertently striking a stranger named Daniel Johnson, who was on the porch at the time.

Johnson, also 29, was hit in the abdomen, an injury he described as life-altering, saying it changed his life “for reasons that have nothing to do with me” during Clendenin’s sentencing on Thursday.

After the shooting, Clendenin, who appeared smirking in her mugshot, attempted to flee but ended up crashing her mother’s 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a guardrail and utility pole.

The local dance instructor has been handed a prison sentence ranging from 16 to 20.5 years, according to a report by WLWT.

She spoke directly to Johnson and her loved ones at her sentencing Thursday, but did not apologize for her actions.

‘I would just like to say that I care deeply about my family, my friends, my business and those who rely on me in this world,’ she said.

‘To Daniel, I am very, very glad that he is well after a difficult time he has been through, and I truly hope that he has a great future and I wish him nothing but the best in his future.’

Johnson also spoke at the hearing, telling the court how he had been invited to the party and was shot while he was ‘sitting on the porch minding my business.’

‘The defendant was attempting to shoot at someone else, and I was the one who ended up being shot,’ he recalled.

Clendenin became enraged over her estranged husband and boyfriend hanging out at the party, which she also had attended, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

The men had found out about their respective relationships with Clendenin earlier that day, the court heard.

She left the party in a fury after unsuccessfully trying to persuade her husband to leave, but returned at around 5am with a .40 caliber handgun.

Clendenin then fired eight shots striking a male victim, who was sitting on the porch at that residence, in the abdomen nearly killing him, prosecutors said.

Johnson was shot in the stomach after Clendenin opened fire from inside the Jeep.

He told her sentencing that the shooting has impacted every aspect of his life, both emotionally and physically. He said he is still recovering and remains in chronic pain.
