Jury selection begins Monday for man accused of killing two, including Kamiyah Mobley's brother

The wheels of justice began to turn in Jacksonville as jury selection commenced on Monday for the trial of Darien Mixson, a young man facing grave charges. Mixson, now 20, stands accused of the tragic 2023 murders of two young men, including Craivon Aiken, the brother of Kamiyah Mobley.

The fatal incident took place on March 1, 2023, when Mixson, who was only 17 and still a student at Ribault High School, allegedly shot and killed Aiken and 19-year-old Devon Taylor. The crime scene unfolded in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, leaving a community in shock and mourning.

The story of Aiken’s family had already captured national attention years prior, when in 1998, Kamiyah Mobley was infamously kidnapped from a Jacksonville hospital by a woman impersonating a nurse. It wasn’t until 2017 that the family experienced a joyous reunion, a saga that was later dramatized in a 2020 Lifetime movie.

In the wake of Aiken’s untimely death, Kamiyah Mobley expressed her heartbreak on social media. Reflecting on their bond, she poignantly shared on Facebook, “It wasn’t about having a little brother for the first time, it was about being your big sister.”

Aiken’s family made headlines in 1998 when a woman posing as a nurse kidnapped Mobley as a newborn from a Jacksonville hospital. The family was reunited in 2017, and Lifetime later shed light on the case, creating a movie in 2020.

At the time of Aiken’s death, Mobley wrote on Facebook, “It wasn’t about having a little brother for the first time, it was about being your big sister.”

Mixson faces charges of first-degree murder (two counts), armed burglary, grand theft auto, and possession of a firearm by a juvenile delinquent found to have committed a felony act.

Jury selection is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Forty-two jurors are expected to be picked, according to court records.
