People taking a daily multivitamin may wish to reconsider. Pyramid Pharmacy’s Amir Bhogal has revealed he does not recommend them to customers. The UK pharmacist explained why in a TikTok video shared under the username @Amirthepharmacist.

Individuals who take multivitamins daily might want to think twice. Amir Bhogal of Pyramid Pharmacy has publicly stated that he does not advise customers to use them. He elaborated on this perspective in a TikTok video under the handle @Amirthepharmacist.

Amir consistently shares informative videos with his large audience, addressing frequent inquiries about hay fever, hangovers, and vitamin deficiencies, among other health topics. In a notable video, he posted a clip titled: “Why I Would Never Recommend Multivitamins.”

He argued, “These supplements often contain either excessive amounts or insufficient quantities of necessary nutrients.” Amir suggested a more personalized approach: “We recommend getting a blood test to identify any specific deficiencies and then taking vitamins that target those needs.”

In his post’s caption, Amir emphasized, “Multivitamins may not be the solution for everyone. As a pharmacist, it’s crucial to determine what your body truly lacks and select supplements that are specifically suited to you.”

The NHS highlights that vitamins and minerals are essential for maintaining health and proper bodily function. “Most individuals can obtain all the necessary nutrients through a varied and balanced diet, although certain groups, like children and pregnant women, might need additional supplements.”

The NHS website provides a detailed guide on vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K, along with minerals like calcium, iodine, and iron. This guide outlines the role each nutrient plays and their importance in sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

The guide covers the recommended doses and good sources of each vitamin and mineral. It’s important to follow the guidance closely and always speak to a GP about any health concerns, as some vitamins and minerals can be harmful if taken in excess.

Always follow the directions provided with any supplements you take. In a previous video, Amir highlighted that it is a common reason why someone might feel their supplement is not working, reports the Mirror.

Replying to a viewer with this problem, Amir said: “Firstly, have you had a blood test and made sure that you’re actually taking the supplement you might be deficient in? The second thing is, are you taking them correctly?

“Some supplements and vitamins need to be taken at specific times of the day or with or without food. And the last thing is, have you given it enough time to actually start working? Some vitamins and supplements need to be taken for about three months before you even notice any difference. Also, make sure you’re taking good quality vitamins and supplements.”

More information about eating a healthy, balanced diet is available on the NHS website. It covers food types to include in your daily diet, and how to meet your five-a-day target.
