NYC cop shoots, kills pit bull mauling woman in Queens

In a late-night incident on Monday, a New York City police officer fatally shot a pit bull that was attacking a woman in Queens, police officials reported.

The NYPD swiftly responded to an emergency call concerning a hazardous animal at 414 Beach 58th Street in Far Rockaway around 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered the pit bull aggressively biting a 28-year-old woman.

In an effort to neutralize the threat, one of the responding officers discharged his weapon, hitting the dog. The pit bull succumbed to its injuries shortly after the shooting.

Authorities confirmed that no humans were hit by the gunfire during the incident. The woman, who sustained bite wounds to her arm, was promptly transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated and remained in stable condition.

Additionally, several officers involved in the response received medical attention for minor injuries, although these were not attributed to the dog attack.

Multiple officers were also treated for minor injuries that do not appear to be from the dog.

It was not immediately clear who the dog belonged to and no arrests were made.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
