Kamala Harris mocked over text touting Deep South political tour

Vice President Kamala Harris has drawn criticism following a peculiar announcement regarding her upcoming visits to several states in the Deep South. The anticipated 2028 presidential contender is set to travel to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas. Her campaign stated that the purpose of these trips is “to uplift Democrats and continue building our power in the South.”

According to CNN, additional stops might be scheduled over the summer and fall. These visits are part of her efforts to bolster support and raise funds for Democratic parties in those states.

The announcement sparked a wave of backlash on social media on Tuesday. One user expressed their disapproval, saying, “She’s literally the reason we have the administration we do today.”

The critic further commented, “As VP, she was part of what many consider the worst presidential administration in US history. Democrats failed the USA by not challenging Biden, and she was placed in her role when Biden was seen as incompetent.”

The user concluded with a stark prediction, “When you have no clue how to help run a country, how to communicate with independent voters who are crucial in every election, and when you promote ideas contrary to their beliefs, then failure is inevitable.”

“When you have no clue how to help run a country, how to talk to your independent constituents that affect every election, and spew the garbage that is against what those same people support, then you will fail.”

Another wrote: “She is a totally clueless person that would have been an unmitigated disaster for America if they had been able to install her as president. Thank goodness she was so bad they couldn’t cheat her in.”

Even though Harris hasn’t confirmed she is running for president, the selected states she will visit could play a prominent role in the next presidential election.

Particularly, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia have been crucial states to win in past presidential elections.

Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election, could also be bolstering support among Southern black voters, a key constituency in the Democratic Party.

The trip will likely cost California taxpayers however. When the former vice president was touring to promote her book last year and earlier in the year, California Highway Patrol officers were shadowing her — even overseas.

Harris and state officials have decided to stay mum about how much that security costs. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration refused to release anything in response to an open records request this week.

The Highway Patrol said sharing “costs related to a protective detail would reveal sensitive security information” and therefore records cannot be shared.

If Harris does run, she could be joining an increasingly crowded Democratic primary that includes Newsom.

A recent poll showed that at least in her home state, voters are resoundingly rejecting Harris as a presidential option, while Newsom led the pack with 28% of the state’s voters.
