Mammoth witness list at accused killer cop's trial
As ex-police officer Beaumont Lamarre-Condon’s months-long double murder trial draws closer, prosecutors could call hundreds of witnesses to give evidence.

A 30-year-old individual has entered a plea of not guilty in the case concerning the deaths of TV host Jesse Baird and his partner, flight attendant Luke Davies, at their downtown Sydney residence in February 2024.

The accused, Lamarre-Condon, was briefly involved romantically with Baird.

As the trial, expected to span three months, is set to commence in September, the former officer made a brief appearance via video link from Long Bay prison during today’s court session.

Dressed in a green top provided by the prison, he only spoke to confirm his ability to hear NSW Supreme Court Justice Natalie Adams.

During the hearing, it was revealed that the prosecution’s list of potential witnesses includes between 200 and 300 individuals.

However, prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC indicated that following further discussions between the prosecution and defense teams, the number of witnesses required to testify in person might be reduced to approximately 100.

Lamarre-Condon’s defence team is still waiting to receive evidence from telecommunications experts, crime scene reconstructions and jail call transcripts.

The 30-year-old became the first serving NSW police officer charged with murder in several decades after he was accused of shooting the couple at Baird’s Paddington home in Sydney’s inner-east.

Police allege the bodies were then dumped at a rural property.

The senior constable later handed himself in, was charged with murder and eventually sacked by NSW Police.

Lamarre-Condon joined the force in 2019.

His case will return to court on May 29.
