Bear gets comfy in SoCal town as neighbors embrace ferocious new friend

This week, the residents of a town in Ventura County found themselves with an unexpected visitor—a wild bear that quickly became the talk of the community. As the bear made its way through Fillmore, it seemed to enjoy its new surroundings, much to the amusement of locals who watched its every move.

The bear’s adventures around town were something out of a storybook, as it was seen lounging in driveways, taking shelter under trampolines, and even indulging in a brief dip in a jacuzzi, according to reports from KTLA. This intriguing behavior captivated the neighborhood, with one resident even attempting to feed the bear a fish.

The presence of this furry guest sparked creativity among the townspeople, who took to a local Facebook group to share humorous, edited images of the bear. These playful tributes featured the bear engaging in various antics, such as cruising around in a car or enjoying a meal at a taco truck. The posts invited a flurry of light-hearted comments, with one person quipping, “Can bearly finish one.”

However, the bear’s stay in town was short-lived. By Wednesday, wildlife authorities intervened, tranquilizing the bear and safely returning it to its natural habitat. While the bear’s visit was brief, it left a lasting impression on the community, who will no doubt remember their wild visitor with fondness and a few laughs.

As interest in their furry new friend grew, locals took to a community Facebook group to share doctored photos of the bear cruising in a car and eating at a neighborhood taco truck.

“Can bearly finish one,” one commenter joked.

The new guest’s residency came to abrupt end on Wednesday, when wildlife authorities arrived to tranquilize the bear and haul back into the wild.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife assessed the animal a possible minor injury near its nose.

Officials plan to relocate and tag the bear to monitor its Southern California journey.

Authorities reminded residents to secure trash, keep pets indoors or on a leash, make noise when outside and give the bear plenty of space.

People are advised not to approach, feed, follow or scare the bear and to stay calm and back away slowly if encountered.

This is not the first bear seen in the neighborhood, another was reported by residents three weeks ago.

Officials have not confirmed whether it was the same animal.
