Ford recalls 422,000 trucks and SUVs for wiper defect

There is a potential safety issue with windshield wiper blades that may break, leading to reduced visibility and a heightened crash risk.

DETROIT — Ford and Lincoln are recalling over 422,000 vehicles due to concerns that the windshield wiper arms could break without warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified this defect as a significant visibility problem that could increase the likelihood of accidents.

This recall affects a variety of Ford’s popular trucks and large SUVs from recent model years.

  • Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 Super Duty pickups (2022–2023)
  • Ford Expedition (2021–2023)
  • Lincoln Navigator (2021–2023)

Vehicle owners can verify if their specific vehicle is involved by checking their VIN at nhtsa.gov.

Ford dealers will conduct inspections and replace any faulty wiper arms at no charge to the vehicle owners, although there may be limited availability of repair parts.

Interim letters warning owners about the safety risk are expected to go out April 13. A second round of notices will follow once the actual repair parts are ready and available at dealerships, meaning some owners could be waiting before they can get the work done.

NHTSA hasn’t issued specific interim guidance, but if your wipers feel loose, skip, or behave oddly, it’s worth calling your dealer now rather than waiting for a letter to arrive in the mail.

Ford’s customer service line is 1-866-436-7332, and the company’s internal recall number is 26S24. You can also reach NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or visit nhtsa.gov for more information.
