Graffiti vandals target Pacific Palisades wildfire homes as rebuild stalls

Residents of Pacific Palisades, already grappling with the aftermath of devastating wildfires, are now dealing with a new problem: their properties are being marred by offensive graffiti.

According to FOX 11, vandals have targeted homes that were already damaged, as well as street signs, trash cans, and even trees, covering them with politically charged messages.

“It’s like rubbing salt into a wound,” said local resident Chris Murthy to the news outlet. “It’s really disheartening.”

The graffiti includes phrases such as “Free Palestine” and “Eat the Rich,” among others, adding to the distress of the community.

“It feels like kicking people when they’re already down,” another resident expressed to FOX 11. “No good comes from this, regardless of whose property gets vandalized.”

The LA Recovers website reports that out of 6,571 homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in unincorporated Los Angeles County, only 13 have been rebuilt. The fire, which began at around 10:30 a.m. PST on January 7, 2025, resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives.

The graffiti comes amid an ongoing investigation into similar vandalism cases involving wildfire-damaged homes..

Last month, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested two suspects in Malibu for allegedly tagging homes and condos destroyed in the Palisades Fire. Authorities said the pair had more than 50 cans of spray paint and may face felony vandalism charges.

The office of Traci Park, a Los Angeles City Councilmember who represents the coastal district, told FOX 11 it has contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to request increased patrols in affected areas, particularly along the bluffs. Officials also plan to meet with impacted homeowners to support cleanup efforts.
