The MCU Superhero With The Most Screentime Is Not An Avenger

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is brimming with superheroes battling evil, and while the Avengers include numerous high-profile figures, there’s an intriguing fact: the MCU hero with the most screen time isn’t part of this flagship group. This hero, known as the Man Without Fear, may not be counted among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but he’s perfectly content safeguarding Hell’s Kitchen instead of the entire planet.

Charlie Cox’s portrayal of Daredevil claims the title of the MCU superhero with the most screen time, with no close contenders. Consider the numbers: Cox stars in Netflix’s “Daredevil,” which spans three seasons, each comprising 13 hour-long episodes. He also played a leading role in the eight-episode ensemble series “The Defenders.” Add his appearances in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and “Echo,” along with the acclaimed revival series “Daredevil: Born Again,” and it’s clear that Matt Murdock is a major presence.

It’s as obvious as Daredevil’s radar senses that, at least in terms of screen time, he’s the real protagonist of the MCU. Moreover, it seems unlikely anyone will surpass this record, as the Man Without Fear’s journey is far from over. Daredevil’s presence in the MCU timeline is set to grow (there are hints he might appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”), as he continues to captivate audiences and remain a fan favorite.

In music, some excel as solo artists, and the same applies to Daredevil within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Matt Murdock occasionally allies with other heroes, he’s primarily a street-level vigilante tackling threats to his city rather than cosmic menaces, a job that typically doesn’t require a large team.

This approach mirrors his comic book counterpart. Although Daredevil has collaborated with the Defenders and Avengers in the comics, he still favors operating solo, choosing the rooftops and streets as his battlefield. Notably, the most compelling Daredevil stories, like “The Man Without Fear” and “Born Again,” revolve around personal challenges and grounded villains. He stands as a pillar of realism in a universe that often ventures into the realms of sci-fi and fantasy.

Daredevil works best as a non-Avenger

Not every hero needs to be part of the Avengers, and the Avengers don’t require every hero. By keeping Matt Murdock apart from the team, the focus remains on the darker, more grounded storytelling in which he excels. There are still numerous Daredevil stories awaiting adaptation in the MCU. Whether he eventually joins the Avengers or not, nothing will surpass his intense, gritty hallway battles.

This is no different from the comic book version of the character. Daredevil has joined forces with both the Defenders and the Avengers in the comics, but he still prefers to operate as a lone wolf, choosing the rooftops and streets as his battleground. As a matter of fact, the best Daredevil stories, such as “The Man Without Fear” and “Born Again,” all center on the character facing more personal challenges and grounded villains. He’s a beacon of realism in a universe that can trek into the furthest corners of sci-fi and fantasy.

Not every character needs to be in the Avengers, and the Avengers don’t need every character. Keeping Matt Murdock separate from the team allows the focus of his tales to be on the darker, boots-on-the-ground storytelling where he inevitably thrives. Plus, there are still many Daredevil storylines we want to see the MCU adapt. Maybe he’ll join the MCU Avengers at some point, but no amount of multiversal shenanigans will top his gritty hallway fights.
