MELBOURNE, Fla. – Exciting times are ahead for theatre enthusiasts on the Space Coast as the King Center for the Performing Arts gears up for a season featuring several Broadway premieres.

This Friday marks a special occasion for the theatre as it celebrates its 38th anniversary. The venue, which opened its doors with a performance of “Singin’ in the Rain” years ago, continues to bring the magic of Broadway to its stage.

In the upcoming lineup, audiences can look forward to classics and contemporary hits alike. “The Music Man” will charm spectators on April 12 and 13, followed by the quirky and beloved “Beetlejuice,” which will grace the stage on May 24.

As the year progresses, anticipation builds for the start of the 2026-2027 Broadway season, set to commence in December. With an exciting slate of shows, the King Center promises an enriching cultural experience for the community.

Here’s a glimpse of the upcoming shows and what each has to offer:

Here’s the list of shows and descriptions:

Mrs. Doubtfire: Dec. 1–2

Touring Broadway production of “Mrs. Doubtfire” coming to The King Center (Joan Marcus)

Everyone’s favorite Scottish nanny is headed to Melbourne in this internationally acclaimed hit musical critics call “wonderful, heart-warming, and laugh-out-loud funny” (Manchester Evening News) and “a feel-good, family-friendly comedy that delivers” (The Hollywood Reporter). Based on the beloved film, MRS. DOUBTFIRE tells the hysterical and heartfelt story of an out-of-work actor who will do anything for his kids. It’s “the lovable, big-hearted musical comedy we need right now,” raves the Chicago Tribune – one that proves we’re better together.

A Christmas Carol: Dec. 21

The true spirit of Christmas lives in this heartwarming production of Charles Dicken’s holiday classic. Audiences, young and old, will leave the theater enchanted by this timeless tale of the miraculous redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge. Guided by the ghosts of Jacob Marley, and Christmas Past, Present and Future, the world’s most famous miser undergoes a magical, stirring transformation into a marvelous man of overflowing love, kindness and generosity.

Water For Elephants: Feb. 9–10, 2027

After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life—and love—beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age.

Legally Blonde – The Musical: April 2–3, 2027

James Oblak as Warner and Hannah Bonnett as Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde – The Musical.” (Drager Creative)

Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting more serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her brain and ingenuity to get into Harvard too. School begins with endless struggles, but with the help of her new friends, Elle quickly realizes her potential, and her true assets, as she sets out to prove herself to the world and make everyone a believer.

Hadestown: April 20–21, 2027
