Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dominque Dshala Liquae Jackson, 35, found herself behind bars late last night, facing allegations of shooting at a relative.

Shortly before midnight on April 9, a witness recounted to a Gainesville Police Department officer a heated exchange between Jackson and the alleged victim at Hidden Village Apartments located at 2725 SW 27th Avenue. The witness, after hearing the commotion for half an hour, stepped outside to investigate and noticed various items strewn across the yard. Initially, the confrontation was largely confined indoors, prompting the witness to return to their own apartment. Upon venturing out again, they observed the victim standing at the building’s edge. The witness heard Jackson declare, “You know what, imma pray for you,” before aiming a firearm and discharging a single shot. Although unable to describe the weapon, the witness distinctly saw the muzzle flash and heard the sound of the gunshot, prompting the victim to flee.

The victim confirmed the argument with Jackson but insisted it never escalated to physical violence. Seeking to distance himself from the altercation, he stepped outside, only to hear a gunshot as he walked away.

After being read her Miranda rights, Jackson reportedly admitted to arguing with the victim for 20 to 30 minutes. She claimed the victim became agitated and punched a fan into a wall inside the apartment. Jackson asserted she asked the victim to leave, with the victim threatening to involve the police before exiting. She described standing in the doorway with a gun in her pocket, arguing with the victim, before stepping out and firing a shot into the air. She denied ever pointing the weapon at the victim.

The investigating officer noted a lack of physical evidence supporting Jackson’s claim of firing into the air, as no bullet hole was discovered in the ceiling of the apartment walkway.

Jackson reportedly consented to a search of her apartment; a bullet casing was reportedly found in a bedroom, and a gun was found in Jackson’s room.

The officer wrote that this did not appear to be a self-defense situation because the victim was four apartments away from Jackson when she fired the shot; Jackson also reportedly stated multiple times that the victim was never physically violent with her.

Jackson has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has one felony conviction (one violent), two misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and two traffic convictions. Judge Joy Danne ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial, but the State Attorney’s Office later withdrew the motion and asked the judge to set bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
