In a tragic incident during a family trip to Italy, a 12-year-old boy lost his life after being caught in a hot tub filter, as reported by authorities on Friday.

Matteo Brandimarti was enjoying the jacuzzi at the luxurious Duca di Montefeltro Hotel in Pennabilli on the morning of Easter Sunday when he became trapped, with his leg pulled into the tub’s filter, according to The Sun.

The boy was submerged for nearly five minutes due to the active hydromassage feature, leaving him unable to free himself, the news outlet detailed.

Hotel employees quickly responded by cutting off the main power to stop the jacuzzi pump, while medical personnel attempted to revive him with CPR.

Despite their efforts, Matteo was airlifted to the hospital in a critical state.

Declared brain dead by Thursday, his family has made the difficult decision to discontinue life support, as reported by local media sources.
