Rockstar has revealed that a data breach involving a third-party provider has resulted in the unauthorized access of some of its information. The cybercriminal group known as ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for this breach, stating they infiltrated the company’s Snowflake accounts, a cloud-hosting service widely used by large enterprises, by exploiting Anodot, a service for monitoring costs and analytics. ShinyHunters is now demanding a ransom to be paid by April 14th, threatening to release the stolen data if their demands are not met.

In a statement to Kotaku, Rockstar assured that the breach’s impact is minimal, emphasizing that the incident does not affect the company’s operations or its players.

While specific details about the compromised data remain vague, early indications suggest that the hack primarily targeted corporate information rather than user data. The breach may involve financial documents, marketing insights, or agreements with major partners such as Sony and Microsoft.

This incident adds to Rockstar’s history of dealing with significant security breaches. In 2022, the company faced another major leak when Lapsus$ exposed a large number of videos from the anticipated game GTA VI.
