OpenAI Boss Sam Altman's San Francisco Home Targeted in Second Attack in 3 Days

In a troubling series of events, the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been targeted twice in just a few days, according to local law enforcement. The second incident occurred early Sunday morning when two individuals allegedly fired a gun at the property, marking a swift follow-up to a previous attack involving a Molotov cocktail.

The San Francisco Police Department has confirmed the arrest of Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23, in relation to Sunday’s events. The San Francisco Standard reported that the pair were apprehended on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm. This arrest came after a Honda sedan carrying the suspects parked outside Altman’s residence around 1:40 a.m.

According to initial police reports, the vehicle had initially driven past the residence, which stretches between Chestnut and Lombard Streets, before returning and stopping. Security cameras and guards witnessed a passenger extending an arm out of the car window and seemingly shooting at the home, a claim supported by reports of a gunshot sound.

After the suspects fled, a license plate scan helped authorities track down the vehicle, leading to the arrest of Tom and Hussein. A search of their home uncovered three firearms, police revealed.

Attempts to obtain further comments from OpenAI and the San Francisco police were unsuccessful, as both declined to provide additional details to The Standard.

This latest incident follows an attack on Friday morning, where 20-year-old Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama from Texas allegedly lobbed a Molotov cocktail at the property from the Chestnut Street side. Security personnel managed to put out the resulting fire, and the entire act was caught on surveillance footage.

Shortly after the Molotov cocktail incident, security personnel at OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay encountered an individual matching the suspect’s description. The person made threatening statements about the building and was taken into custody by police, the company stated.

Moreno-Gama was booked into San Francisco County Jail Friday afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder, arson, possession or manufacture of an incendiary device, and additional charges. No injuries were reported in either the Friday or Sunday incidents.

The San Francisco Police Department continues to investigate both incidents. This story remains developing as authorities work to determine whether the two attacks are connected and what motivated the suspects.

Moving forward without this blueprint could allow people like Sam Altman to enact their progressive vision of AI instead of technology that benefits all Americans.
