Popular travel website Booking.com has warned customers that their personal information including booking details and names may have been accessed by an “unauthorised third party”.
Booking.com is one of the largest digital travel companies globally, with more than 28 million accommodation listings worldwide.

Yesterday morning, the company reached out to some of its Australian users via email, alerting them to what it termed as “suspicious activity.”

Customers have reported receiving multiple emails from Booking.com warning that their personal data may have been accessed by an “unauthorised third party”. (Supplied to nine.com.au)

“We are notifying you that unauthorized parties may have gained access to certain details related to your reservation,” stated the email.

“Upon detecting unusual activity impacting several reservations, we promptly took steps to address the issue,” the message continued.

Booking.com confirmed to nine.com.au today that they experienced a security breach, mentioning they have implemented measures to control the situation, though they declined to specify how many customers were affected.

A spokesperson for Booking.com assured, “We can confirm that no financial data was accessed from our systems.”

The breached information could encompass booking details, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and any information shared with the accommodation.

Booking.com has issued new PIN and reservation numbers to customers it believes have been affected by the data breach.

“The security of your personal information is our utmost priority,” the Booking.com email sent to customers said.

“We will continue to enhance and extend the robust security measures we have in place to secure your reservations with us.”

Booking.com has been contacted for comment.
