In a tragic incident in Tucson, Arizona, a man has been taken into custody following a street race that culminated in a deadly collision. Christian Isaiah Randall, aged 22, now faces charges of second-degree murder, alongside two counts each of endangerment and aggravated assault. These charges stem from a catastrophic crash on Friday, as detailed by a press release from the Tucson Police Department, shared by Univision. Surveillance footage captured Randall and another driver racing at speeds far exceeding the legal limit.

Randall was reportedly driving a Hyundai Genesis that collided with a Toyota Camry. Inside the Camry were a mother, who was nine months pregnant, and her 3-year-old daughter. The impact was devastating, splitting the Camry in two. The young girl, tragically identified as Anna by her family, lost her life, while her mother remains hospitalized with injuries. Anna was reportedly secured in her car seat at the time of the collision, which occurred at an intersection.

Local CBS affiliate KOLD reported that surveillance cameras captured Randall’s vehicle racing alongside another car. Notably, the driver of this second vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived.

In a grim coincidence, just two days prior to this incident, the Tucson Police Department had issued a warning on Facebook highlighting the growing menace of street racing in the area, labeling it a “serious public safety issue.” This warning was underscored by a previous incident at the same intersection on March 1, where an alleged illegal street race resulted in three fatalities and one serious injury.

KOLD obtained surveillance footage that allegedly showed Randall’s Genesis racing with another car. Police said the driver of the other car did not remain at the scene.

Just two days before the crash, the Tucson Police Department issued a warning on Facebook that said street racing activities were becoming a “serious public safety issue.” KOLD reported that three people were killed and one seriously injured at the same intersection on March 1, allegedly the result of an illegal street race.

Police said Randall was also injured in the crash and treated at the hospital. After he was released, he was booked into the Pima County Jail, where he is being held on $500,000 bond. His next court date was not immediately available.
