In a notable development, opening statements in Harvey Weinstein’s third trial for rape charges are scheduled to commence on Tuesday in New York. This trial marks yet another chapter in the ongoing legal saga surrounding the former Hollywood mogul, now infamous for his fall from grace in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

Concluding its selection process on Friday, the jury now comprises seven men and five women who will deliberate over allegations that Weinstein raped a woman in a Manhattan hotel back in 2013. Weinstein, maintaining his innocence, has pleaded not guilty to these charges. The proceedings are anticipated to unfold over the course of approximately four weeks.

Weinstein, now 73, once an influential figure in the film industry and an Oscar-winning producer, has spent a significant portion of the past decade embroiled in legal battles over sexual assault accusations in both New York and Los Angeles. This trial is yet another pivotal moment as the justice system continues to address the serious allegations against him.

Four days of jury selection wrapped up Friday in the case against the former Hollywood powerbroker turned #MeToo pariah. A jury of seven men and five women will be tasked with deciding whether he raped a woman in a Manhattan hotel in 2013.

Weinstein has pleaded not guilty. The trial is expected to take up to four weeks.

At 73, the Oscar-winning former movie producer has spent much of the last decade fighting sexual assault cases in New York and Los Angeles.

He was convicted in both cities, but his initial 2020 New York conviction was overturned. Then jurors at a retrial last year deadlocked on the rape charge, while reaching a mixed verdict on sexual assault charges pertaining to two other women.

Weinstein denies all the allegations and has appealed his various convictions. He has been behind bars for six years to date.
