Once a stylish retreat atop the Beverly Hills Peninsula Hotel, The Roof Garden has temporarily shuttered following a significant violation issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health due to a rat infestation.

Known for its dedication to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, the restaurant prides itself on incorporating herbs and vegetables harvested directly from the hotel’s garden, as noted on its website.

However, on April 18, the LA County Department of Public Health cited the restaurant for multiple violations, the most critical being a vermin infestation and issues with hot and cold water availability, as per records reviewed by The California Post.

Health standards mandate water temperatures of 120°F for dishwashing and 100°F for handwashing to inhibit bacterial growth and ensure proper cleanliness. The venue at 9882 S Santa Monica Boulevard also faced minor infractions related to the sanitation of food-contact surfaces.

Since opening its doors in 1991, the Peninsula Beverly Hills has meticulously maintained its 5-star prestige in Los Angeles.

It stands out as the only hotel in Southern California to consistently achieve both the AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star accolades annually since 1993.

Before its closure, The Roof Garden was a highly rated rooftop experience, boasting a 4.5 rating across most platforms—often described as a “hidden gem” above the city noise.

The restaurant has not yet announced when it will reopen, but online reservations show availability beginning Thursday, Apr. 23.
