A prime example of this is Aliyah Boston. The Indiana Fever’s star forward, a three-time All-Star, has inked a historic four-year contract extension valued at $6.3 million—the largest deal in the league’s history.

In 2026, Boston is set to earn $1 million, slightly below the maximum $1.19 million she could have commanded. This was a strategic decision on her part, allowing her teammates, including Caitlin Clark, to enjoy increased salaries as well. Over the subsequent three seasons, Boston will earn 20% of the team’s salary cap.
