In a bold declaration on Thursday, President Trump announced that he had directed the US Navy to engage in lethal measures against Iranian vessels suspected of laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Taking to Truth Social, Trump stated, “I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be (Their naval ships are ALL, 159 of them, at the bottom of the sea!), that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation.” His message underscored an uncompromising stance against threats to maritime trade routes.
Further reinforcing his position, Trump added, “Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now. I am hereby ordering that activity to continue, but at a tripled up level!” This increase in mine-sweeping operations highlights the administration’s determination to ensure the safety of this crucial passageway.
This announcement came on the heels of the War Department’s confirmation of a second tanker seizure within a week, carrying sanctioned Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean.
