Simon Richardson, aged 35, faces charges not only for the murder but also for failing to stop at the scene of the accident that claimed the life of 56-year-old Michael Mullins.

The collision occurred on Paddock Lane in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, at approximately 6:10 PM on Monday. Despite swift action from emergency services, Mullins, who hailed from Weaverham, Northwich, was pronounced dead at the scene. His grieving family is currently receiving support from specialist officers.

Authorities have taken into custody three men and one woman in relation to the incident, which is believed to have occurred as Mullins was making his way home. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.

Michael Mullins was a longstanding and respected headteacher at Stretford Grammar School in Trafford, Greater Manchester, dedicating 17 years to the institution. His death has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving colleagues and students mourning the loss of a devoted educator.

Officers arrested three men and one woman in connection with the incident, which is understood to have taken place as Mr Mullins was on his way home.

He worked at Stretford Grammar School in Trafford, Greater Manchester, where he had been headteacher for 17 years.

Today Richardson, of no fixed address, was charged with murder, manslaughter, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance.

In a heartbreaking tribute, his family said: ‘Our loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, “Diddy”, Uncle, Son in law, passed away last night after being knocked off his bike.

‘He was devoted to his family, and our lives will never be the same. A gap has been left in our hearts and within his role as a headteacher of Stretford Grammar school.

‘Our Dad gave us fantastic memories growing up including a trip getting lost at night around Washington D.C but it was in his role as a Grandad where he truly excelled.

‘Our love and memories of Michael will know no limits.

‘We will love him forever, to Saturn and beyond.’

Stretford and Urmston MP Andrew Western said: ‘I am shocked and truly saddened to hear the devastating news of Mr Mullins’ tragic death.

‘My thoughts and condolences go out to the staff and students at Stretford Grammar, and above all to Michael’s family and friends.

‘Michael was a lovely man and in the conversations we had it was clear that the needs of the children in his care were always at the heart of everything he did.

‘His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him, here in the Stretford community and beyond.’
